Government Engineering College Munger came into the existence on 25th September 2019 when the Honorable Chief Minister of Bihar.
The mechanical engineering department is one of the starting B.Tech courses of the Government Engineering College, Munger. The presence of well-equipped laboratories and highly qualified faculties makes it one of the best centers for mechanical engineering in Bihar. The department plays an important role in the academic development of the institute. Apart from academics, the students are also trained in various fields of mechanical engineering through hands-on experience in workshops. With well-equipped laboratories and guides, students get to know the real situation of industries, learn the working principles of various types of machines and types of equipment, and do troubleshoot. Students are encouraged to do research and develop models in the field of mechanical engineering. They are trained in machine design, working of I.C. engines, Thermodynamics, etc. through practical models and simulation. The department has academic laboratories which include hardware and software that consists of, Metallurgy and Mechanics of solids, Manufacturing Processes, Fluid Mechanics and Hydraulics Machines, Applied Thermodynamics, Machine Tools and Metrology, Theory of Machines, Heat Transfer, Instrumentation and Control Systems, Machine Drawing Through CAD, Fluid Thermal Modelling and Simulation,Computer Aided Design and Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAD / CAM) Computer Aided Numerical Control, Computational Mechanical Engineering Laboratory etc. The infrastructure and lab facilities are upgraded from time to time and provide good practical learning and
innovative environment for the students and researchers. The students are nurtured with a variety of active learning activities including and not restricted to classroom teaching, presentations, video lectures, MOOC courses, minor / honors courses, experiential learning (EXEED), and online courses by faculty in the institute and across the globe. The intake capacity of the Mechanical Engineering Department is about 60.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering envisions value-based education, research and development in the areas of Manufacturing and Computer Aided Engineering as an advanced center for Mechanical Engineering, producing graduates of world-class competence to face the challenges of the global market with confidence, creating effective interface with various organizations.
The mission of the Mechanical Engineering Department is to prepare effective and responsible engineers for global requirements by providing quality education and improving pedagogical methods employed in delivering academic programs to the needs of the industry and changing world by conducting basic and applied research and to generate intellectual property.

The Engineering Workshop Practice for Engineers is a training lab course spread over the entire semester. The modules include training on different trades like Fitting, Carpentry, and Black smithy which makes the students learn how various joints are made using wood and other metal pieces. The student will also get exposure to the latest art of equipment which includes a laser engraving cutting machine, a five-axis vertical CNC router, a 3D printing machine, and conventional machine tool equipment.
To investigate the constitutive relations and mechanical properties of metals and theirmicro structure to determine strength and toughness for engineering applications.
To study and characterize the Newtonian fluids and understand the mass, momentum and energy.
To study the performance of SI and CI engines.
To understand different machining and characterization of the geometrical and dynamic parameters.
To study the basic mechanisms for mobility and forces that are acting, analyse and synthesise the
machines.
To study different basic modes of heat transfer and determine constants for different geometries.
To measure and calibrate physical quantities like pressure, temperature, speed, displacement, flow,
and vibration in real time engineering applications using transducers with amplification circuits.
